I got a new lens just before I went to Australia – the Sony FE 24-70 f/4 ZA OSS . The trouble is this is “new-new” – as in just released by Sony; with new lenses and cameras Lightroom doesn’t instantly recognise them so I have had a problem with images from this lens. For JPGs the camera corrects for the lens automatically, but I shoot raw – so I end up with vignetting and distortion when the files were brought in to Lightroom – as shown below:
The latest release candidate of Adobe Camera RAW has a semi “official” profile which somebody is hosting here on Dropbox.
After a lot of digging I found some help on where to install it – as it seems placing it in the master folder for lens profiles doesn’t work (which the top hits on Google said is where it should go).
Lightroom 5.2 needs to look in a user folder; well at least on Mac OS it does. I copied the profile to /Users/myuser/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Camera Raw/LensProfiles/1.0/ and it became available for selection.
The Library folder for users is hidden by default in Mavericks – access library by accessing Finder and holding Alt when you click “Go”- it’ll appear in the list. Alternatively click “Go” and “Go to folder…” and type in the stuff in bold above, replacing myuser with your username, of course.
Now it’s installed lines that are meant to be straight are. Hurrah!
