TAOP: Assignment 5 ? Images ? Part 4: Hiding…
November 25, 2012
These are my fourth and fifth images for the narrative assignment. Originally these were to be set at a cave, but my guide wasn’t available so I had to think of something else. As it happened I’d discovered a tunnel/long bridge for the Rochdale canal under the M62 while out running – and this made for a good cave substitute.
I wish that I could hide you…
The first show depicts the cahracter moving toward the tunnel/cave as a hide-out. I’ve carried the red over from the previous set, essentially representing what the character is attempting to hide from.
One light was set up with a red gel and Pringles tube to direct the light and avoid too much of it bouncing/spilling in to the tunnel. The camera was on a tripod and I used timed delay – having forgotten my remote trigger. The setup is shown below:
…so you can rest and repair
The second shot depicts the character hidden from the red light. I’ve used a bare flash directed at my face (Pringles tube again) to show the character is sheltered. I’ve not decided which one I prefer as yet – and I think I’ll make the decision once I’ve got the whole lot arranged together.
I’ve no idea why I had the camera set at ISO1600 – I expect I’d been playing but I can’t recall why. I’ve increased the brightness and sharpness in Lightroom.
The red gel flash was just on the edge of the bridge outside, so as to cast a strong shadow and avoid too much red hitting my face. This is how the flash without gel and camera was arranged.
