TAOP – Assignment 4 – Light: Texture of the Object – One – Smooth
August 1, 2012
This is my fifth shot for assignment four – “light” – and is my first shot using light to show the texture of the object.
Texture – Smooth
This was shot on manual in my light tent. A flash gun was placed next to the bottle, pointing upward so as to bounce back from the top of the light tent. I’ve increased the ‘exposure’ by 1 in Lightroom and also slightly modified the black levels (+5). I’ve also cropped the image; I liked the near-symmetry on the top of the bottle when placed in the middle of the image, framed by the label which isn’t symmetrical. It helps highlight the idea of unblemished and clean, which enhances the ‘smooth’ theme of the image.
The second shot for texture aims to contrast with the smoothness of the glass, instead bringing out the sharpness of the metal bottle cap.
This was an early attempt, but I felt the background bottle made it too busy; though the intent had been to illustrate the overall smoothness of the rest of the bottle, as well as the top. The white background also brought out too much detail within the glass, while the dark bottle top hid it’s smoothness.
